About
Born on 14 June 1969, Miguel Díaz Vizoso grew up in Belgium, a country where comics are a second language. Holding both Belgian and Spanish nationality, he developed an artistic sensibility early on, shaped by the great masters of the ninth art.
Before committing to drawing, he devoted ten years of his life to education, working as a carer at a special needs institute from 1989 to 1999. This deeply human experience left a lasting mark on the way he tells stories. It directly inspired the storyline of A Child Among the Smurfs, in which the little blue creatures find themselves dealing with a troubled child.
In 1996, he trained at the Châtelet Fine Arts school under Vittorio Leonardo, who introduced him to professional drawing techniques. Three years later, in 1999, he joined Studio Peyo and began his long collaboration with the world of the Smurfs.
Since 2015, he has written and drawn several volumes of the iconic series, with seven albums to his name. His precise line work, mastery of colour and ability to blend humour and emotion have earned him recognition from both readers and the industry. In 2024, The Smurfs and the Magic Cape won him the Grand Prize at the Ajaccio International Comics Festival.
Alongside his Smurfs work, he has drawn two Robin Dubois albums (2007–2008) and two Boule à Zéro albums (2021–2023), confirming his versatility and his dedication to a wide audience.
